On Saturday, 22 December 2018, the Weekend Australian newspaper featured an article on its front cover on the recent passing of the three Bills giving effect to the changes to the ILC’s Land Account and the extension of the corporations remit to include water-based rights.
The article by the newspapers Indigenous Affairs reporter, Paige Taylor, titled, ‘Fishing for opportunities in an ocean of hope’, told the story of the recent passing of the bills and what this will mean to Indigenous and Torres Strait Islanders through the eyes of Wynston Shovellor, a young Karajarri Traditional Owner from one of the ILC’s recent acquisitions, Port Smith in the West Kimberley region of WA.
