The Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC) is a corporate Commonwealth entity established under the ATSI Act and subject to the PGPA Act. The ILSC assists Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to realise economic, social, cultural, and environmental benefits that the ownership and management of land, water and water related rights can bring. The ILSC provides this assistance through the acquisition and management of rights and interests in land, salt water and freshwater country.  

Under the guidance of the Operations Manager, this role will work with organisations that have obtained land and water rights through the ILSC to broadly support the ongoing, sustainable management of Country. The role will involve collaborating with Indigenous landowners to maximise sustainable opportunities that improve the Indigenous Estate. Other key responsibilities include supporting the ILSC’s Our Country Our Future (OCOF) program, developing and implementing approved projects, managing contracts through to completion, evaluating effectiveness, and preparing reports and recommendations in line with ILSC policies to help achieve its objectives. 

 Under the direction of the Operations Manager, you will: 

• Negotiate with stakeholders and facilitate a collaborative approach to project development to optimise and deliver sustainable economic, environmental, social, or cultural benefits to First Nations peoples. 
• Proactively develop proposals for the ILSC to assist Indigenous Organisations to manage land that they already own to deliver sustainable economic, environmental, social, or cultural benefits.  
• Undertake research, market analysis, project scoping, due diligence and feasibility analysis of projects to establish the business case for ILSC investment.  
• Individually or in a team, prepare for and facilitate workshops to assist stakeholders and the ILSC to make informed decisions, and to set and monitor future objectives regarding land and water ownership and management.  
• Develop regional knowledge (demographics, needs, issues, etc.) in order that activities are focused, coordinated, strategic, effective, and regionally relevant.  
• Manage existing land and water acquisitions so that sustainable outcomes are achieved in a timely manner and project compliance is maintained.  
• Prepare high quality reports, Board papers and briefings related to land and water acquisition and management functions in accordance with agreed ILSC processes and procedures.

The ILSC Agribusiness is a specialised unit of the ILSC that focuses on the development and management of commercial agribusiness investments on Indigenous land in partnership with Indigenous people. ILSC Agribusiness currently operates Gunbalanya Meats located in West Arnhem Land, NT.

Gunbalanya Meats operates a small abattoir and retail butcher shop in the community of Gunbalanya on the eastern edge of Kakadu and are seeking expressions of interest for a friendly and experienced Butcher to join the team!

As the Butcher, you will be responsible for the following duties:

• Provide friendly customer service in the retail butcher shop.  
• Perform the duties of slicing, preparation, and/or packing of fresh meat including the manufacturing or processing of meat for retail or sale.
• Ensure cash handling is accurate and balances with till records.
• Abide by existing laws on animal cruelty and ensure all employees on the Meatworks do the same.
• Maintain qualifications and competencies in all aspects of a meat works to enable Gunbalanya Meats to produce a wholesome and hygienic product. 
• Participate in the daily cleaning of the Meat Works, its equipment and surrounding areas to ensure they are maintained and uphold high hygiene standards.
